The N.W.A. soon withdraws recognition of Carpentier ever being champion and returns it to Thesz. A.W.A. Omaha continues to recognize Carpentier as world champion.

On August 23, 2002, X-pac''s (aka Sean Waltman) contract with the W.W.E. was terminated. He was the last holder of the Light-Heavyweight title and the W.W.E. decides to drop the title and use the Cruiserweight Championship for it's Light-Heavyweight division.
